The first piece of the 'Once in a blue moon' stories.
A wet July evening. End of the month. Saturday.
Very light pockets.
Entertainment option no.1: a walk in the rain.
Entertainment option no.2 : sit at home.
He loved to walk in the rain. She didn't.
But she liked hanging out with him.
So she brought out her big yellow umbrella.
There was some red wine in the refrigerator.
Perfect! They took it along.
The rain was now a lovely light drizzle
They sat there on a rock near the promenade.. Drinking straight from the bottle.. Taking turns.
It was so quiet.. I guess not too many people enjoy sitting in the rain...A deserted promenade.. Felt like the whole strip belonged to them.
A cold wind blew over the sea.
They huddled together under the umbrella.
They didn't say much.. Correction: He didn't say much. He never did.
She talked about a recent trip for a bit.
And then they settled into peaceful quiet.
The kind of friendship where you could just sit together.. And be.. Without really having to find things to talk about just to break the silence.
An unusually cool Mumbai evening, a soothing light drizzle, no one around but them, they sat there quietly together, under the big yellow umbrella, enjoying the wine, listening to the sea and watching the Mumbai skyline.
No, this was not a romantic date nor did they have any romantic interest in each other... Even so, this was one of the most romantic evenings that she would never forget. The kind of evening that happens only once in a blue moon".
By the artist:-
As an artist, I am a storyteller.
I am drawn to shapes and structure but also the freedom of fluidity. One represents security and organisation and the other unrestricted freedom and flow. I want both, and as a mixed media and collage artist, I have finally found a style that marries them well.
While my educational background comprises English Literature, Psychology and Mass Media, my love affair with art started serendipitously only a little over two years ago, and having explored many different mediums and techniques, I have now found a style that truly resonates with me.
My love for collage is perhaps also influenced by my childhood obsession with jigsaw puzzles. Being a self taught artist and having spent hours and days and years now, trying to teach myself about something I enjoy so much, has taught me that, art is as much about restraint and confidence, as it is about flourish and expression. I yearn to achieve a balance between the two.
My inspiration: My work is greatly influenced by beautiful writing (sometimes even just a single word), and the words or thoughts that inspired the painting, accompany the painting often. My favourite techniques: Monoprinting and collage
My process: I enjoy creating my own collage papers and then combining them with mixed media. Many a times I create the papers and simply tear them up or cut them, and then within those pieces, sometimes ideas and inspiration appear. I then put back those pieces to create the story.
My art philosophy : as Andy Warhol said,” Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.”
