On a bright red setting, Anand paint’s his lucid blue subjects; Ram and Lakshman. His fluid and smooth brush strokes beautifully colour the background and the subjects. The changing tones of blue in the subject varies the focus in this picturesque artwork. Anand adds a crisp flavour to the painting by intricately sketching the scene of Ram’s return to Ayodhya, after concurring Lanka. The calm on Ram’s face and the faith in Hanuman’s eyes set them apart from the crowd. The artist uses lighter and darker tones of the basic red and blue colours to change the painting’s accent.
If you want to reconnect with the roots of India, take a look at Anand Panchal’s paintings. Full of vibrant colors and depicting village life, he captures the innocence of children, going about their daily lives. Anand’s family background ascertained that he would be using his hands creatively- as his family was involved in carving wood and his grandmother made intricate carvings and wooden puppets. When in high-school Anand’s talent was discovered by a teacher in a drawing competition, and upon being told about their son’s flair, his parents got him enrolled in a professional art class. From then on, there was no looking back for Anand. After spending time in academies like G.D. Art (Drawing and Painting), Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya, Pune(1997), he joined the prestigious J.J. School of Arts, Mumbai (1998) to complete Diploma in Art Education. It was in J.J.School of Art that he was able to explore different facets of art. He was drawn irresistibly to the medium of art and was influenced and inspired by artists like Amrita Shergill, Rembrandt, Renoir, and Gauguin. Some unique characteristics by which his work is recognized are a narrowed canvas with lanky figures, brahmin boys, cows and goats, mythological characters like Anjaneya or related to the epic Mahabharat. His choice of colors is vibrant reds, blues, and ochre – earthy tones which complement the village life and add vibrancy to his paintings.Anand Panchal, since his graduation, has been part of numerous solo and group shows in India and abroad. He currently resides in Kandivli, western suburb of Mumbai and manages his art studio which is situated nearby.
