Ananda Das Paintings - Artist Profile
Can the knowledge of art be passed from parent to child? This seems to be the case with the Kolkata based artist Ananda Das. He took to art as a fish takes to water and self-instructed himself in drawing and painting. Son of a famous painter, he holds his own. Ananda has been a part of 36 and more group shows, more than 11 exhibitions and his art has been endorsed by major corporations such as ABN-AMRO Bank, RBI, Larsen and Tubro Ltd and also by the British High Commission, French Consulate, and Dutch Consulate- Mumbai.
As for Ananda’s paintings, they too live out of Kolkata. There are the long ancient Greco-roman coloum enterances, hand rickshaw pullers, black umberellas and blacker than charcoal – black rain clouds – all immerse you in experiencing the city. Ananda is also known to draw animals, horses, being oft-drawn. His use of colour is mostly restricted to black and white with some other colours highlighting certain portions of the painting that Ananda wants to highlight.
He is a sensitive painter as his art portrays what happens in a city – a city that accommodative to people of all races.
