Ramesh Gojrala was born in 1979, in Kalahasti, also known as the birthplace of Srikalahasti Kalamkari style. Ramesh Gorjala received his BFA and MFA from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad.

Ramesh grew up in a family of weavers, where is was completely surrounded by art, all the time. He saw his parents engaged in the beautifully enchanting art of weaving intricate designs and learnt painting from his uncle Balaji Theretham, an award winning Kalamkari artist who was also his first guru.

Owing to his immense admiration towards Indian mythology and ancient Indian history, Gorjala found his muse in Hindu Gods and Goddesses. Using his own distinct interpretation of the mythological stories, the artist splendidly recreates the magnificent Hindu deities on his canvas. His colour palette balances the bright and warm tones of orange, golden yellow, subtle greens and blues along with vivid shades of red. The detailed work in each figure and the beautiful colours breath life into his gorgeous paintings.

While studying at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Ramesh embraced contemporary art in a true sense, when parted ways with his traditional medium of vegetable dyes and learnt the use of acrylic colours on canvas and handwoven paper.

Ramesh beautifully crafts a story on his canvas, he believes that the main charm of Indian heritage lies in its storytelling. An artist should engage the onlookers by creating mystifying paintings, keeping them engrossed in the stunning artwork.

At first, Ramesh sketches his subject on a plain canvas. Filling it with colours and detailed motifs, he then gradually gives these paintings a beautiful structure and a story, finally filling it with earthy and vibrant hues of various colours. Ramesh’s art is not just a painting, it’s a complete story, an entire production.

Ramesh was awarded the Mahatma Gandhi Brith Centenary Memorial Award by Victorial Technical Institute, Chennai in the year 2000 and he received the State Award from Andra Pradesh Crafts Council in the year 2002. Through out his career, Ramesh has displayed his works in many Indian and international shows.
