About Ramesh Gorjala
Ramesh Gojrala was born in 1979, in Kalahasti, also known as the birthplace of Srikalahasti Kalamkari style. Ramesh Gorjala received his BFA and MFA from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad.
Ramesh grew up in a family of weavers, where he was surrounded by art, all the time. He saw his parents engaged in the beautifully enchanting art of weaving intricate designs and learned painting from his uncle Balaji Theretham, an award-winning Kalamkari artist who was also his first guru.
While studying at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Ramesh embraced contemporary art in a true sense, when parted ways with his traditional medium of vegetable dyes and learned the use of acrylic colors on canvas and hand woven paper.
Ramesh beautifully crafts a story on his canvas, he believes that the main charm of Indian heritage lies in its storytelling. An artist should engage the onlookers by creating mystifying paintings, keeping them engrossed in the stunning artwork.
At first, Ramesh sketches his subject on a plain canvas. Ramesh was awarded the Mahatma Gandhi Brith Centenary Memorial Award by Victoria Technical Institute, Chennai in the year 2000 and he received the State Award from Andra Pradesh Crafts Council in the year 2002.
