Shyamal Mukherjee is a leading Bengali artist who was born and brought up in Kolkata (1963). He pursued his art education from Santiniketan completing his BFA (1987) and MFA (1989) from Rabindra Bharti University.
Shyamal Mukherjee paintings in reverse oil or acrylic painting on transparent sheets which is a very time-consuming effort. He takes inspiration from his daily life and portrays figures bordering on a caricature style, which is guaranteed to make a viewer smile. Shyamal believes that his paintings should spread happiness and knows for sure that he will never paint something that does bring him and others, joy.

He has to his credit more than 36 solo exhibitions and numerous group exhibitions in India and abroad to date. His work is well known and is in the collections of celebrities such as Manoj Kumar, the late Sunil Dutt, and Varun Gandhi among many others.
