Radha, Radhika, Kanupriya, Krishna’s beloved has many different names, despite the name, she remains His beloved. The painting ‘Krishna’s beloved’ is a beautiful portrayal of a woman, lost in the thoughts of Krishna. Sukanta Das colours to his beautiful paintings with a palette full of subtle and sober colours such as ochres, light greens, soft browns, greys. Sukanta Das’ art revolves around human beings and nature. He illustrates the relationship and interdependence between nature and human beings. The artist adorns the human figures with natural motifs such as flowers, foliage and vines. Mostly, his subjects are women, wearing soft, shy and delicate expression. Through his art, Das compares and contrasts the woman’s beauty with that of nature. Das focuses on the facial contours and mien, that usually are very calm and composed. His artwork, even though seems simple, is exceedingly engrossing. His soft brush strokes add a different dimension and texture to his paintings.

Sukanta Das is a renowned artist from West Bengal. He obtained his Bachelors’ in Visual Arts from Rabindra Bharati University.

Sukanta Das’s work is largely themed around beauty, of both humans as well as nature. Through his work he tries to portray relationship and dependence of human beings and nature with one another. He portrays his women to be soft, shy and delicate and contrasts a woman’s beauty with that of nature. He pays special attention to facial contours and expressions, imbibing the emotions of serenity and harmony in the face of his protagonists. His work is simple in composition yet extremely engaging.

He uses subtle sober hues such as soft browns, ochres, light greens and greys. He often compliments his human forms with motifs of nature such as vines, flowers and foliage. He uses soft brush strokes in his work.

He has numerous group as well as solo shows to his credit. His work is a part of private collections all over the world. He currently resides in Kolkata and works from his studio there.
