Ramchandra Kharatmal is the youngest recipient of the Lalit Kala Akademy award (2006) and has completed his G.D. Art (Painting) from Kala Mahavidyalaya, Satara, and Dip.A.Ed from Bharti Kala Mahavidyalaya, Pune. Ramchandra has been felicitated with numerous awards by the Bombay Art Society (2008), The Art Society of India (2007), State Award, Maharashtra State (2006) among many others.
His work depicts Maharashtrian life in its entirety – from traditional marriage to tribal women – each canvas is also dedicated to the ‘quilt stitch’ or the Godhadi which is made of cloth that is unused at home. Ramchandra’s sensitivity has allowed him to explore the subject of physical love and proximity of a couple – them sleeping on their sides in similar postures, a mother and a child wrapped in the traditional quilt, or couples simply walking together. He also has a playful streak in his paintings, which bring a smile to the viewer.
Ramchandra’s work touches the heart as the feelings that are communicated through his brush-strokes takes the audience into different worlds. His work has a national and international following with his art being a part of various prestigious collections. Ramchandra is married to another famous artist Vqrsha Kharatmal, and both live and wok out of Pune, Maharashtra.
