Farhad Hussain (b. 1975) is an Indian Modern and Contemporary painter, who graduated from Shantiniketan in 2003. He received his postgraduate diploma from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Baroda in 2005.
Farhad’s artworks are vibrant paintings of the daily lives of Indian urban middle class people. His colour palette is a combination of bright and warm colours that are balanced with hints of white and lighter shades of cool colours. Though he does not stick to any single colour, vivid shades of reds and oranges form an important part of these paintings. He paints stylised figurative paintings of common people, mainly focusing on their surroundings, postures and their attire. Farhad’s colour combination and subjects create a sense of drama which is mixed with a hint of satire. Through his paintings, the artists tries to comment on human psychologies, their thinking and their actions. His choice of medium; tempera on cloth, helps him bring out the vibrancy and breath life into his whimsical paintings.
Over the years, Farhad has showcased his artworks in numerous solo and group shows in India including Mumbai, Kolkata and Baroda, as well as in many international cities. He received the Nasreen Mohamedi scholarship in 2004. He was also awarded for best watercolour painting in 1998 by Indian Art College Art Exhibition.
