Om Swami Paintings - Artist Profile

Om Swami is a self-taught contemporary artist, who studied at Raheja College. Just like the artist himself, Om Swami’s art, follows his heart.

Swami has synchronised his paintings with his inner self, his thoughts and emotions resonate on the canvas. Though he changes his subjects and works across different art forms and mediums, the onlookers would observe a constant blend of spirituality and love in Swami’s paintings. He connects the humane attributes such as love, sensuality and passion, felt by people with his art. Complementing his paintings Om swami’s colour palette is bold and vivid. With Bright tones of red, yellow and orange along with hints of green, blue, black and white, Om Swami’s paintings are dauntingly beautiful and attract the onlooker’s attentions in an instant.

His brush work, is smooth and seamless, almost making it look like he simply glided a coloured brush on the canvas, without any thought or effort but ended up in a captivating painting. Abstract, spiritual or romantic, Om’s paintings look like a colourful poetry on canvas.

The calligraphic scriptures —often quoting a Sanskrit shloka— in the background of his spiritual paintings, especially that of Ganesha give them a distinct look. Swami changes the thickness of his brush, colours or the calligraphic style to keep his backdrop dynamic and engaging. His subjects are a blend of solid contrasting colours and standout on an otherwise intricate setting.

Om Swami plays with different textures and contrasting tones to create his abstract paintings. One would often find various patterns in the background along with brush strokes that are inspired by the 17th century impasto technique to enhance the aesthetics of his abstract paintings.

Om Swami is based out of Mumbai and in recent years, he has gradually moved to sculptures where he creates various forms of Ganesha with fibre glass. These sculptures highlight Ganesha’s different features including His big ears, pot belly and long trunk. He then uses his unique and dynamic painting style to paint on these sculptures and give them the zestful Om Swami look. His colour palette in the sculptures eco his radiant paintings and the different textures and calligraphic scriptures adorn them.

Swami’s stylised figurative paintings illustrate the romance between a man and a woman. Though he portrays his subjects without eyes, they seem to be at a spiritual sync and share an emotional connect. These subjects communicate with each other in the language of love, which though is inaudible, touches the observers’ eyes.
